Hey everyone, and welcome to the 5th Annual Emote Awards!
A lot has happened in the past year, and it's time once again to commemorate those awesome people that helped make it happen! And it can only be done with the help from you and the rest of the community! So I'll stop blabbering on and move right on to the important stuff.
Rules
Each phase of voting will last three weeks. The nomination phase will last from January 1st, 12 AM EST, until January 22nd, 11:59 PM EST, the voting phase period will be determined and announced at a later date. Any nominations and votes cast outside of these time frames, within reason, will not be counted.
Since the host this year is Waluigi-Prower, I cannot be nominated for or win any category. However, any groups that I am an admin in can be nominated for Best Emote-Related Group.
You cannot nominate or vote for yourself.
You can nominate anywhere between 1 and 5 people per category, but you can only vote for 1 nominee per category.
Please send all votes via note to TheEmoteAwards. Any notes sent to anywhere else may be accidentally overlooked, and therefore left uncounted. Click here to get an optional nomination voting template for you to use, graciously sent to us by dully101!
When you nominate / vote for someone, you can write down the reasons why you're voting for that person, although it isn't required for you to do so.
The period of eligibility for all nominations is from January 1st, 2013 to December 31st, 2013. All eligible emoticons were submitted in that time-frame, and any nominees for "Best New Emoticonist" will have submitted their first emoticon in that time-frame. For the categories relating to emoticonists, those that are nominated must also have been active for at least part of 2013.
Any winners of the previous Emote Awards cannot win the same category as they did last year, however, they can win any other category. If a category was not in last years Emote Awards, or if someone has won a category in any year besides 2012, this rule does not apply.
In the case of a tie in the number of votes for a winner of a category, a recast will be held for one extra week after the voting phase.
Any questions on the rules can be asked in the comments or noted to TheEmoteAwards and will be addressed as quickly as possible.

Hey guys, I apologize for taking so long to get this journal out, but some people wanted a bit more time for votes, and college is stealing all of my free time and (the very little amount of) energy needed to update this! :noes:
Anyway, with the large amount of nominations we received in some categories, numerous ties have risen for 1st place in a handful of categories! We need EVERYONE to re-cast their votes to help decide a winner!

After 3 weeks of nominations and another 3 weeks of voting, the polls are closed, the ballots have been counted, and Krissi001 (https://www.deviantart.com/krissi001) and Mirz123 (https://www.deviantart.com/mirz123) are here to announce the winners of the 2012 Emote Award.!
Before we get to the winners, though, we'd like to comment on a question that was raised during the voting process.
